GREAT FINDS

Looking for some new ideas for your kids lunch box? Try these great tips:

• Chicken Fingers and/or Meatballs: Heat chicken fingers or meatballs in the morning and place them in an insulated thermos. They’ll still be warm at lunch!

• Make your PB&J sandwiches ahead of time, wrap and freeze. Just make sure your peanut butter is on both sides of the bread to keep the jelly from seeping through.

Pasta: heat pasta up in the morning and place in an insulated thermos.

Tortilla Roll Ups: Make tortilla roll ups with meat and cheese and then freeze. Just take out what you need the night before. It will defrost by lunchtime!

Edamame is a good source of protein.

Cube cheese and offer it on a toothpick

Trail mix – make your own with things your kids like such as nuts, dried berries, stick pretzels

• Vanilla yogurt with berries and granola or nuts on top in a small plastic container (use an ice pack to keep it cold)

• Use leftover chicken from dinner and make a sandwich vs. processed sandwich meat which is high in sodium

• Open faced bagel with cream cheese and a face such as raisins for the eyes and cashew for the nose etc.

Peanut butter and banana sandwich instead of jelly

• Fresh mozzarella cheese in a tortilla

Use a thermos in the cold months and fill it up with soup or pasta with a little bit of chicken broth for added taste

Cereal. Just make sure it is high in fiber Provide a container with a top and a spoon; your child can add the milk provided at school.
